Our Story

A township community-targeted awareness and education initiative by a radio station in Komani, Eastern Cape, gave birth to an understanding of a need and lost message between corporates and the communities they want to serve.
Vukani FM Community Radio station asked for a radio segment to teach the community about ESG — specifically initiatives that help better their lives. The challenge came in unbundling compliance complexities and helping the Chris Hani District Municipality community understand and resonate with terms often encrypted in jargon such as ESG, Sustainability, Safety, Hazards, and Pollution.
As a seasoned corporate employee and manager at the time, the challenge was to bridge the missing middle between communities and most CSD programmes born from ESG commitments by organisations across the board — how does it all make a difference in the lives of previously disadvantaged communities still grappling with poverty and basic needs? The message had to be delivered in isiXhosa.
This revealed a design and fit issue between what ESG, Sustainability and elaborate corporate programmes want to achieve, and what actually matters to the people they're meant to serve — communities still struggling with waste management, sanitation, clean drinking water and food security.
ANICA Group was born from understanding that the only way up is to start at grassroots: to educate and teach, then create a co-creative environment when building systems (ISO, ESG, SHEQ, etc.). The process has to be iterative and a long-term partnership, where entities allow communities, employees and stakeholders to make them great.
ANICA Group is your strategic partner that goes to the ground for you — to ensure decisions are grounded in the reality on the ground, and to help design solutions that are co-created by you and your stakeholders.
